Voting begins today and runs until December-it’s simple, you can vote online by logging onto www.powerabrightfuture.com, search for Blaney Elementary School, vote one time every day and spread the word.? Please join me as I take a moment out of each day to cast a vote that will help our kids by winning a Power A Bright Future Grant from Clorox.

What a Week

This has been one of those weeks that I’m thankful to see come to an end and I welcome the weekend with open arms.? I was reminded this week through several situations that life is never a certainity, it is a wonderful gift and one that we should never take for granted.? Take a moment and let your family and loved ones know how much you love and appreciate them because we never know when our maker will be calling us home.

Enjoyed an insightful meeting tonight about our upcoming “Catfish Stomp Festival”.? The organizers have a wonderful event planned and some new events this year along with our normal customary ones.? One that I am looking forward to and would like to encourage others to think about participating in is the “Cookoff” that will take place on Saturday, December 3rd.? This is going to be a great opportunity for those great cooks out there to compete with fried or stewed catfish to see who is the king when it comes to preparing catfish.? If interested, stop by Elgin Town Hall and pick up an information/Entry form and let’s put that great recipe to the test!? I will talk more about this event as the time draws near.? I am just tickled to death about all that is in store for this event and I’m thinking that this has the chance of going down in history as on of the best!

Have a great weekend, spend time with you loved ones-I myself will be enjoying all that North Myrtle Beach has to offer and my family and I will be taking a much needed getaway.

God Bless,

A New Direction For Elgin

This is all new territory for me as I’m sure it will be for many others.? My youngest daughter was impressed that I am using new programs and trying new things such as blogging.? I’m sure I will bore someone to death, but I hope I can make just one person’s day by saying something witty.? I promise not to be long winded and will stick to topics that are of interest to most.? My topic today is volunteering and serving.? We have several positions available for our Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Appeals Board.? I’m hoping there’s someone reading this that may want to do a little research and check to see if this is something they might enjoy.? If so, please do not desitate to let me or the Mayor or other Council Members know and we will fix you up.? I encourage everyone to get informed and when the opportunity is there, get involved.? I’ve taken up enough of your time tonight-hope you’ll come again tomorrow.? Let’s talk Elgin up and start some shaking and some moving and see what happens next.

Halloween Night Trick-or-Treating 2011

A message from Elgin Police Chief Harold Brown

With Halloween right around the corner, many children and parents are beginning to plan costumes, decorations, and activities. Parents and children also need to begin thinking about trick-or-treating. The Elgin Police Department will have additional patrol units doing added safety patrols Monday, October 31, 2011 until 9:00 p.m. We encourage parents with younger children to finish up their trick-or-treating by dark. Those individuals who decide to stay out after dark, we encourage you to take the necessary precautions to make sure you are visible to motorists and homeowners.

FOR MOTORISTS:?

We ask motorists to keep in mind just because you see the person trick-or-treating does not mean they see you. Use caution when passing trick-or-treaters and be mindful of children walking into roadways and on the side of streets.

FOR HOMEOWNERS:

We ask homeowners to clearly illustrate whether or not your house is open to trick-or-treaters. If residents are encouraging trick-or-treaters, please make sure your outside lights are on. Outside lights will help illuminate the correct path to the door providing safety to children and parents and indicate if you would like people to trick-or-treat at your house. If you would not like individuals coming to your door, please turn off porch lights to indicate you are not participating in trick-or-treating.?

FOR PARENTS:

We ask parents to finish up trick-or-treating with younger children by dark. Please make sure your child?s costume will be visible at night if he/she stays out past dark. Encourage your children to use the designated pathways at each house to respect the property of that individual. If you will not be accompanying your child trick-or-treating, make sure you are aware where they will be trick-or-treating and have a way to contact them when needed.

FOR TRICK-OR-TREATERS:

We ask trick-or-treaters to be mindful of their surroundings. Make sure you are careful around roadways and look out for motorists. Please respect individual?s yards and property. Remember it is not a race from one house to the next so use caution and avoid running through yards and landscaping. If trick-or-treating with an adult, make sure you stay with that person and do not run ahead. If trick-or-treating without an adult, make sure your parent knows where you will be trick-or-treating and has a way to contact you.
