Elgin Accepting Applications/Resumes for a Municipal Judge



The Town of Elgin is accepting applications/resumes for a Municipal Judge to preside over its court.  The Municipal Judge will hear and determine all cases properly brought before the Municipal Court.  Duties include issuing arrest warrants, search warrants, summons and subpoenas, and presiding at early morning/late afternoon bond hearings as needed to set and accept bond for jailed inmates at the county detention center on an alternating weekly schedule with another municipal judge for the town.  Minimum requirements:  applicant must be a US Citizen, a resident of the State of South Carolina for (5) years or more, (21) years of age or older, complete a training program or pass certification or recertification examinations, or both, pursuant to standards established by the Supreme Court of South Carolina within one year of taking office.  Experience in criminal justice, criminal law or contracts as well as a Bachelor’s Degree are preferred.  Applications are available at Elgin Town Hall.  Submit applications/resumes to Elgin Town Hall, Attention: Mayor Melissa Emmons, Post Office Box 277, Elgin, SC 29045.  Please contact Elgin Town Hall for more information at 803-438-2362.  Deadline to apply is Friday, June 18, 2021.
