Exciting Things Happening in Elgin

It is that time of year where things are starting to pick up and get busy, so hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. With the holidays come many events that will be held in the town that are great for the family. As always, the Elgin Catfish Stomp will be held the 1st weekend in December with a parade starting at 10:00 and a variety of events going on for the rest of the day. It will be held at Potter Community Park, which is located at the corner of Main Street and Green Hill Road-directly behind Ronnie?s Ribs. I hope you will start making plans now to attend this annual event that is fun for all ages.

As always, before the Catfish Stomp is held, the Town of Elgin will be taking nominations for our ?Citizen of the Year?. You can pick up a nomination form from Elgin Town Hall or download it directly from our website at www.townofelginsc.com and submit it to our Clerk. The deadline for all nominations is November 11, 2013, this will allow time for our panel of judges to review and choose the individual they feel has exhibited or met the criteria to be recognized. This individual and their family will be honored and presented with a plaque at our Town Christmas Dinner and will serve as Grand Marshall of the Elgin Christmas Parade. This is a great way to show our appreciation to someone who has gone above and beyond to make a difference in our community.

We are working on plans to develop two parks in our community-Potter Community Park and Grooms Garden. I am hoping to enlist some assistance from individuals and organizations to help establish a Military Salute/Memorial at Grooms Garden for those who serve and have served our community and country in the military. I would like to have an area in which we can set up flagpoles for the United States Flag and a flag for each branch of the military. If you would like to help out in any way, please feel free to contact me or Town Hall.

I encourage everyone to make an effort to attend our monthly meetings, which are held on the 1st Tuesday evening of each month at 7:00, so you can stay informed and find ways to get involved and if you miss a meeting, check out our website at www.townofelginsc.com, where we list agendas, minutes from meetings and the calendar of events. If I can ever be of assistance, please feel free to contact me by phone at 803-309-1385 or email at Melissa.emmons@townofelginsc.com

Happy Halloween,
Melissa Brazell Emmons
